Yellow Tomatoes, Striped Tomatoes, and Another Small Discovery in Moldova

One of the pleasures of living in Moldova is that even something as ordinary as buying tomatoes can still produce a surprise. I have eaten tomatoes all my life. Red tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, plum tomatoes, large tomatoes, small tomatoes. It is hardly a product I would normally regard as exotic. And then, here in Chișinău, I came across these two. The first were completely yellow: large, deeply ribbed tomatoes with the irregular shape that immediately makes them look as though they came from a garden rather than an industrial production line. The second were even more unusual. They were predominantly golden yellow, but with red and orange colouring running down from the top in broad irregular stripes. Many had a pronounced heart-like shape, narrowing towards the bottom. From a distance they almost looked more like some unfamiliar fruit than tomatoes.
